It’s official, Madonna’s new daughter has been delivered in Material Girl style. Three-year-old Mercy James was delivered to her adoptive mother in London after a flight on a private jet from Malawi. Little ‘Mercy’ is the second child the 50-year-old pop star has adopted from Malawi, and the fourth child for the now single mom.
Madonna made a tearful phone call from her New York penthouse last Saturday morning to her newly adopted daughter, where she reportedly told her new offspring, “You are part of us now.” Despite Madonna pledging her “motherly devotion” to her new daughter, telling her, “I promise I will love, protect and guide you with my every breath,” Mercy is more than likely not going to see her new mommy that much during her first few weeks in the family. The Queen of Pop did not even fly herself to Africa to bring her new daughter back to New York, instead the travel arrangements were left to Madge’s Malawian lawyer, Alan Chinula to finalize.
When she is finally united with her new mother, Mercy will likely be allowed a small window in Madonna’s busy schedule, before she’s handed over to an expert team of nannies. “She’s hardly ever with her children. She’s got two full-time nannies and one part-time nanny. So, why adopt a kid if somebody else is raising them?” questioned Madonna’s ex-chef, Eric Ienco recently. Adding, “Madonna puts herself before her kids. When she adopted little David, he arrived at her home from Africa – and three hours later, she left to do Pilates. Wouldn’t you think she would want to spend the entire day with her new son?”
On July 4, Madonna will resume her Sticky and Sweet tour for seven weeks, during which time her ex-husband Guy Ritchie is rumored to be taking custody of his sons Rocco and David Banda, the couple’s other adopted child from Milawi. It makes you wonder if the singer’s pursuit of Mercy is motivated more by having someone say ‘no’ to her about something she wants than a genuine maternal desire.
