A Malawi court delayed until this Friday a ruling on Madonna’s attempt to adopt a second child from the African country. The decision came the same day as a press conference in the capital city, Lilongwe, by a group of non-governmental organizations accusing Madonna of using her wealth and influence to fast-track the adoption process; one official called her a “bully.” After her visit to the Malawian courtroom, the pop star visited the day care center built by her charity. She was accompanied by her 12-year-old daughter Lourdes, 8-year-old son Rocco, and 3-year-old Malawian son David, whose adoption Madonna finalized last year.
Madonna did not get her adoption approved. The singer, 50, spent about an hour in court Monday morning in the Malawi capital of Lilongwe, where a judge delayed ruling on her application to adopt a second Malawian child, 3-year-old Mercy James, until Friday. (The child’s name was listed on Monday’s court docket.) Court official Thomson Ligowe would not reveal any other information. The 4-year-old would have been a sister for David, whose adoption by the U.S. pop star aroused controversy, and comes from the same orphanage.

Lark Previn, a daughter of actress Mia Farrow has died. The medical examiner’s office says Lark Previn died Christmas Day at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. No cause of death was given. A cremation was held Tuesday at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery. She was 35. Lark Previn was born in Vietnam in 1973. She was one of three children adopted by Farrow and her then-husband, conductor Andre Previn. The couple also had three biological children. Lark’s sister is Soon-Yi Previn, and was at the center of Farrow’s messy breakup with Woody Allen. Allen and Soon-Yi are still married.
