Best Friends Host a Unique Baby Shower

Sandra and Kevin Usleman wanted to do something special for their best friends, Kristina and Scott Rehling who are adopting a child from the Gladney Center for Adoption\’s Ethiopian program. Rather than a traditional baby shower with wine and cheese and baby gifts, Usleman decided to do something a bit different. A music concert seemed like the ideal event for the Rehlings who are veterans of the Austin, Texas, music scene. So, rather than presenting typical baby shower gifts like bottles and diapers, guests will buy tickets to the event and will be treated to an intimate, world class concert featuring some of the top music artists in Austin.

The proceeds from the event will be donated to help feed, clothe and care for orphans in Ethiopia. Usleman said, \”Our goal is for Kristina and Scott to deliver a check to the Ethiopian orphanage when they arrive to meet their new daughter, Shymin. The orphanage is in dire need of many items we take for granted everyday: items like hot meals, medicine and clean clothes.\”

The invitation-only event was held on November 21 and featured a wide array of musical guests, including:

John Pointer- guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and beat box wizard — Produced, performed and recorded with Peter Gabriel, Zoometric, Bumboat and other notable musician
Patrice Pike — One of the youngest to be inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in 2006-2007
CJ Hauptemeier – guitarist, virtuoso vocalist and prolific songwriter
Cakemix featuring Scott and Kristina Rehling, Jimmy George, Johnny Big and Jennifer Mulhurn

In addition to the concert, guests enjoyed traditional Ethiopian food served by an area Ethiopian Restaurant. There were also opportunities to win fabulous raffle prizes such as a vacation get-away to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The Rehling family wil nowl travel to Ethiopia to present the check to the orphanage and complete their adoption process. We think it’s so wonderful that these exciting events are happening in November – National Adoption Month. The Gladney Center for Adoption celebrates National Adoption Month as a time to honor and give thanks to families everywhere who are touched by adoption and also to reflect on the 143 million orphans around the world, most of whom will never be adopted.

We at Baby Lifestyles salute your desire to adopt and to celebrate by giving back to a wonderful place. Congratulations!
