Birthday parties in Manhattan are always something special, and this rooftop party was no exception! The little man of the hour is Indra, and he was so happy to celebrate his very first birthday. Seri and Michelle of Little Miss Party Planner had the pleasure of styling the party on a lovely rooftop terrace in Manhattan. While there was a backup plan to have the party inside Indra’s home on the sixth floor of the building, he got insanely lucky with one of the nicest weather days in New York City.
“Indra’s mom Sylvia had a strong vision of what she wanted this party to look like and we happened to love it,” Seri told us. ”She loves grey and white so she wanted to use these colors as the base for the party and wanted to have some type of cloud like decor as the party was up in the sky on her roof deck. Since the party was for her son’s first birthday she thought it only appropriate to add in some blue. We added a clover green into the mix here to round out the scheme of dreamlike hues.”
Nature aspects were flowing throughout the roof deck. Seri and Michelle blended the wood and water towers with a moss cover spreads for the tables and milk bottles filled with simple white, fresh flowers. ”We used twine wrapped around some of the vases to keep with the natural theme and then to add to her cloud vision we put up tissue poms above the food table in white and grey strung with blue/white bakers twine.”
Pinwheels wrapped into tin buckets of sand and used wood-tiered cake stands were used for the sandwiches.Terra cotta pots were painted with chalkboard paint while forks on the lunch station and straws at the bar were a fun way to add to the garden like setting. ”We loved the mini terra cotta pots filled with moss for the food place cards. They worked out perfectly and was a great way to incorporate more moss.”
The rustic lemonade stand sign was created by Seri’s Uncle Steve. “We went to home depot, picked up some ply wood and some stain. Steve stained the wood drilled some holes and then set the string in so I could just fling the sign over the lattice on the roof deck at the party and tie it. I did the white text painting. The sign was a surprise to the client. We had the idea and figured – great if we can pull it off and we did and she went bananas!” The lemonade was not only refreshing but a huge hit with Indra’s party guests. On this perfect sunny day, guests sipped on lemonade and flavored water, the perfect refreshment!
Since Sylvia loved skulls and bones, which Michelle and Seri used in the signage all over the party (“me thirsty” water bottle labels, “Indra’s lunch” sign, etc), adorable “Me Loot” burlap type fabric bags were used for the favors. “We suggested putting personalized tins of bubbles inside each for the kids to take home as favors. They were adorable and the kids loved them! The print on the bags was grey and the artwork on the bubbles we made was blue…the labels read: Bubbles for me Mates. The wands were made out of blue pipe cleaners and solution we use kicks butt for blowing easy and big bubbles.”
Thanks for sharing Indra’s day with us girls!
