When the Homespun Hostess little princess turned 4, Sara threw her a sweet pink and teal ballerina themed lunch. This birthday party featured sweet tulle, pink tutus, and cupcakes with ballerina toppers.

While favors are usually the closing part of a party, Sara decided to start with them as Annabelle’s party had a whole wall of them!

The girls were pampered with tutus, pearls, flower hair clips, bracelets, ballerina soaps and sparkly rings. And Sara managed to do it all on a homespun budget.  “The pink tutu was a splurge at $7 each, strands of inexpensive faux pearls, ballerina soap, a little box of bangle bracelets ($1 a set), pearl gumballs, handmade sparkle rings and hairclips that I handmade. I think I spent around $12 on each little girl and we had about 10 girls there.”

And don’t think that boys can’t partake in ballet fun! “I think we ended up having around 10 boys there. My friend and I got together one day and made 14 bowties for less than $5! I filled the boxes with a chocolate cigar and faux mustaches. The boys did have lots of fun pretending to be little gentlemen in the mustaches!” The favors were set up at the fireplace where honeycomb paper tisuses balls were strewn about the floor. “This was one of my visions for this party from the beginning. I knew I was setting favors up in front of my fireplace and that I would cover the black granite surround with a fabric covered board, but the black granite floor bugged me. It did not match the soft party colors so I started thinking of ways to cover it up and this is what came to mind.”

The party was at noon so the menu was a light lunch, and these prima ballerinas were watching their figures for the dessert table anyway! Chicken salad croissants, ham and swiss mini sandwiches, strawberry cream cheese and jam heart shaped sandwiches, fresh fruit, chopped salad, tortellini pasta salad and dill potato salad were served.

Sara created a dessert table of ballerina goodies and dancing deliciousness.  She stapled 10 yards of tulle to the underside of the front and two sides so that it looked like a tutu and topped it with white/pink swiss dot fabric before finishing it off with pearl ribbon trim. “For the backdrop I covered the plywood in a shabby chic curtain from target. I finished off the edges with a ruffle fabric trim that I purchased at a craft store.”

Ballet dancers feasted on cupcakes topped with roses and ballerinas, and enjoyed cake pops covered with sugar crystals.

Sara’s amazing sister created this stunning ombre rosette cake. Sara topped it with a porcelain ballerina figure from Annabelle’s room.

“Annabelle and I both loved handing out the favors for the little girls! They were excited the moment they arrived and saw the display so it was fun to see it all get put to use! Digging into the dessert table was everyone’s close second!”

Thanks so much for sharing your precious day with us Sara!

I LOVE the party! We are doing a ballerina party for my daughters 6th birthday in May. Where did you get the tutus? I have been thinking about making them for the girls, but for the price you paid, might just buy them.

    Thanks!
