Custom Crib Skirt DIY Tutorial with Teal and Yellow Raindrops

What we love about Christine’s nursery for her daughter Alice is not only how modern and visually beautiful the room is, but how much of it was DIY. Hearing about how custom everything was is one of the reasons we featured it in our Feb/March Magazine Issue. Here she shares how she created her gorgeous teal-colored, raindrop crib skirt.

The crib skirt she managed to tackle on her own by referencing a few different tutorials and hodge-podging it together. “Basically, it’s a simple as 1, 2, 3, 4:
1) measure length/width of crib sides (“I didn’t do the back since it’s against the wall”).
2) cut three pieces of fabric (“add extra for seam allowance”)
3) hem edges
4) sew ribbons to top to tie to crib springs.

With the ribbons at the top, Christine adjusted the length of the skirt when she lowered the mattress of the crib. “It was super simple to make although, I must admit, it was time consuming. It took me way longer than expected to cut/hem to make sure all the edges were straight. But, I’m super happy with how it turned out and I only wanted to throw my sewing machine across the room once or twice. Success in my books.”

Her next project was a mini quilt, which she made with her sister, Michelle. “In reality, I have no idea how to make a quilt, so she did most of the dirty work. I did what I was told – pinned and ironed and sewed.” It turned out uber cute and baby approved:
