Hannah’s Pink and Green Girly Nursery Room Reveal

Hannah’s nursery came to Jamie after she collected pictures for her inspiration board. “I wanted to make sure that it was personalized, and full of inspirational words and scripture passages.”

Right away, Jamie knew that she wanted to use the quilt with the big star pattern but it didn’t have the exact colors in it that she wanted to use, so she looked through her fabric stash and found a few pieces of fabric that I had bought but wasn’t sure what to do with and that’s when the color scheme hit me.

“Hannah’s crib is directly in front of you when you walk in the door.  There’s a little rocking chair that was mine when I was little right in front of her crib. To the left is the queen bed and Hannah’s dresser is in her closet.”

“The star quilt is one of my favorite things. It was given to me by my father, I think someone in his family made it. I wanted the room to be personalized so I made sure to put Hannah’s name and initials all over the room. From the name banner above her bed to the hidden embroidered “H” to the “H” pillow and I also plan on making an “H” crayon shadow box like I’ve made for my other two children. The wood blocks that spell her name are also very special, they were a gift from Hannah’s godmother and are made from wood from Hannah’s great-grandfathers farm.”

The scripture painting with the word “joy” at the end of it was also chosen specifically because Hannah’s middle name is Joy. I’m a big fan of canvas prints so I knew I wanted a big wall portrait above the bed. I thought of doing one of just Hannah but I really wanted her to see her big brother and sister everyday and see how much she’s loved. I also put photos of our family in the room and photos of Hannah with her godparents. I am proud of the handmade things that I made with love for my little girl, like the bunting, the scripture paintings and her personalized items as well.

When it came to the sewing circles, Jamie had seen someone make something similar but they painted the name of their child on fabric in the embroidery hoops. “I had already purchased the wooden letters for her name so I thought that I would paint the letters and then sew them to some fabric that was stretched in an embroidery hoop. So I stretched fabric, laid everything out to get an idea of where each letter should go and then just used some embroidery floss to sew the wooden letters to the fabric. Each letter is hung individually on the wall.”

She also got really creative with the mobile. “I found these hanging butterflies that were in one long piece at Hobby Lobby. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them for a while, but they were perfect for the theme of the room butterflies, polka-dots, pink and green. I used an embroidery hoop to hang them from and just cut the long piece into smaller pieces and then wrapped the tops of the cut pieces around the embroidery hoop before closing it and adding the top string to hang it from.”

Hannah’s room is full of family heirlooms which mean so much to Jamie. The dresser in Hannah’s closet used to be her husbands. The little rocking chair by her crib was Jamie’s when she was little. The big rocking chair was a hand-me-down from a good friend of Jamie’s in college who lives in Kenya. The queen bed and nightstands were the ones Jamie and her husband had in our first bedroom. “The crib was something my mom bought for my first daughter and all three kids have used it now. I love seeing these pieces as they remind me of a time gone by, that I cherish. They also remind me of the people I love that I don’t get to see on a regular basis.”

Thanks Jamie for sharing Hannah’s fun nursery with us!
