Real Party: It’s My Birthday Party and I’m a Pink Princess

Originally, birthday girl Lily was going to wear a t-shirt saying “It’s My Party”, but mom Elise took the princess for a day theme so much further. From that simple idea, the owner of Sweet Scarlet Designs created a crown graphic as part of the party logo and the modern princess theme flowed from there.
“The invitation had to be pink and cute,” Elise told us. She chose a 7”x5” size, when she found cute pink envelopes, and designed the invites around them. “The information on the invitation is the most important thing – when, where, why. So if I get that down, I can then design around that, and give a good first impression of the party to come.”
Elise designed the dessert buffet table around the color pink. The gum paste crown and wand cupcake toppers worked in with the cake design and party logo, done in layers of edible metallic paint. Birthday cake, chocolate cupcakes and lemon and poppy seed cupcakes (the birthday girl’s favorites!) were loved by guests. “The Jelly cups were a big hit with the guests – these are quick, easy and they add color to your table and the kids love them!”
The butterfly was an element that added sparkle, and also helped make the birthday cake the centrepiece of the table. “I think it is important to color theme the food you can for overall presentation, but not at the expense of flavor. It has to taste as good as it looks! The printables really help with the details. The food labels and food tents add something special to the finished table.
This was the first time Elise had tried her hand at tissue pom decorations, and they turned into her favorite detail of the party. “These are so easy to make and they add real style to the table. I was just a little impressed with myself!” She even made the tissue poms into an activity, getting the party girls to make tissue pom pom wands, which they loved. Lily said her favorite parts of the day were the party games and the party favors.
Thanks Elise for sharing Lily’s princess It’s My Party birthday with us!
