Real Party: A Preppy Pink Crab Birthday Party
Baby Lifestyles | Jun 09, 2011 | Comments 0

One night, Jess of Party Box Design was eating some crabs with her family and her daughter Charlotte kept saying, “More crabbies Mommy, more crabbies”. Jess wanted to host a party she had never seen, and it hit her, a preppy pink crab party! Being from Maryland, Jess’ daughter Charli loves crabs, and a bit of a prep. She put the two together and came up with this preppy pink crab party!

“I had not see a lot of pink and blue together,” Jess said. “They are classic colors and classic colors work really well with prep, so it all fell into place. We always use pink in Charlotte’s parties, so that was a for sure color. Right after the theme and colors were picked, I moved right along to the décor.” Jess designed the save the date and then created labels at Bottle Your Brand. “In Maryland you can’t have a crab feast without beer, however we couldn’t have just any beer labels. Some thus came the Crabby Ale and custom labels.”

Parties are a lot of work and expensive, especially for ones like this involving 50 guests, so Jess is always thinking of ways to cut costs. “I love to re-purpose and think it adds so much character to a party. I am a huge fan of mason jars and second hand shops. Our crabby bar was a second hand shop find. With some paint, stain and glass knobs it was brought to life. I also found some great straw hats there, which held our crabby cookies. The crab netting was fun, bought some white netting and stained it pink with rit dye. It worked out so well and transformed a plain white net into a preppy pink one.”

“My husband made the amazing Crabby Bar and Beach sign, which is probably my most favorite part… aside from the actual bar, which was a labor of love. The crabby bar was originally purchased from a second hand shop and restored by me- amazing find!”

As the name says, the party was a crab feast, with steamed crabs with old bay. “Not sure if you can serve them any other way! We also had kid friendly foods as well, but a lot of the kids here in MD grow up eating crabs so they enjoyed them as well.”
Crab spice jars were party favors for the adults. “I created and printed some fun labels to place on the jars. The jars were a great find from crate and barrel. ” The kids took home crabby cupcake push pops and crabby cookies.
“This very party is my ultimate favorite. I love the beach, crabs, prep and pink. Plus my daughter is turning 3, so it’s a really fun age. Watching the children play and enjoy the party is priceless. Seeing my daughter laugh and play with her friends is total joy.” Thanks Jess for sharing Charli’s crabby day with us!
