Nursery Reveal: Pink Princess Nursery with Bed Crown Canopy

Even before she became pregnant, Makenzi of Party of Tew began daydreaming of the perfect nursery. She saw a bed crown canopy in a decor magazine, and although the fabric crowned a daybed instead of a crib. The photo instantly became the inspiration for the nursery. At the time, she didn’t even know what gender her baby would be, she only knew she loved the look. “Once we knew we would be blessed with a baby girl, I couldn’t wait to make my daydreams a reality. I have always loved interior design and I couldn’t wait to create a special space for our new addition. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how everything turned out. It is exactly how I envisioned her nursery in my head!”

Makenzi describes her styles as “definitely traditional, but I like to add vintage touches like the dresser to add more interest and character. “The floral fabric served as inspiration for the nursery design. “I wanted her room to be sophisticated enough to grow with her but still be subdued and calming for an infant. When I saw this fabric, I knew it was just what I was looking for to achieve the balance. The color scheme was lifted directly from the floral fabric. Pink is such a classic little girl color and I loved the coral hue in the fabric. Crème is a great compliment to the pink and is also a soothing neutral.

As a first time mom, Makenzi was “neurotically determined” for the room to be complete before she brought her baby home from the hospital. “I began creating Addison’s nursery immediately after we found out we were having a girl and finished two days before she was born – talk about cutting it close!”

“The canopy is my favorite detail in the room. I’ve always loved the idea of a canopy in a nursery and I couldn’t imagine the room with it. It gives the room a dramatic and unique focal point.” To recreate the bed crown and canopy she saw in the magazine, Makenzi sketched out the canopy design and took it to a family friend to construct. “Believe it or not, the canopy was actually super easy to install thanks to Joanne’s thoughtful construction. She also custom made the drapes, crib skirt and pillows. The crib has a large drawer that is concealed by the crib skirt. It has been invaluable for storing diapers! I chose a dresser to double as a changing table for extra clothes storage. My sewing skills are basic at best so it was best to leave the sewing to a professional!”

As an artist, Makenzi wanted to create a special piece of artwork for Addison’s nursery. “At our last home in North Carolina, my husband Brad and I enjoyed watching a family of rabbits play in our front yard throughout the day. Those rabbits became the theme and inspiration for the nursery artwork. Once Addison was born, she would smile and clap her hands when she saw the rabbits. Now the artwork represents a cherished memory from Addison’s first home in North Carolina that I hope she will enjoy for years to come.”

The chandelier was definitely an indulgence. It is not a necessary element for a nursery like a crib or rocking chair; however, the room wouldn’t be complete without it!”

While we’re raving about Addison’s nursery, there’s nothing like having your friends gloat too. Here’s what Makenzi’s friends said about her room:

“I love that Addi’s room is timeless, elegant and kid friendly. The décor in it will grow with her over time.” – Anna
