Real Shower: Woodland Nature Themed Twin Welcome
Baby Lifestyles | Apr 13, 2011 | Comments 1

Twins mean double the…everything. And twin showers are double the fun to plan. Resisting the temptation to do a ‘two peas in a pod theme’ Jeannett of Life Rearranged, was just waiting for a reason to throw a woodland themed party she had seen. When her friend Jen announced she was pregnant with naturally occurring boy and girl twins, she leapt at the opportunity to create the outdoors inside for 20 guests.
“I wanted a happy and bright color palette that lent itself to both boys and girls,” Jeannett said. “It was tempting to use really muted colors, but this was a baby shower. It had to be bright and happy! So I picked gender neutral colors like red, lime green, and orange as the main color scheme.”

The cute creatures brought the childish factor to this elegant party. Jeannette and her friend Tracy designed the invitation themselves using digital scrapbooking elements.

“Tracy’s house was perfect for a woodland theme. Do you see the gorgeous oaks out the window? And the rain on the glass? Love.” Jeannett also brought cheerful elements of the outdoors to the table with butterfly filled mason jars. “These mason jar terrariums were my favorite detail. Adding a butterfly helped bring in more color and added a fun twist. I’m thinking these would look cute with tiny pansies in them too!”

For Jeannett, throwing this baby shower as a team was the best thing ever. “While I was able to focus entirely on decor, my co-host Tracy was in charge of all of the food for the event. Her family is big into wines so they have a sophisticated palette! The shower began at 2:00 and we didn’t want to serve a heavy meal, so a gourmet cheese spread seemed like an easy, no fuss, no dirty dishes-way to feed people.” And we’re talking a cheese spread straight out of a gourmet restaurant with items like Cabernet soaked cheddar to choose from.

“I really dislike shower games,” Jeannette confessed. “I always feel like they are awkward and forced. So, my friends and I have pretty much vowed to never include games into showers we host. Instead, I read an excerpt from a book and talked about my own experience as a twin mom. Offering a short devotional or time of sharing from the party guests is always so much more meaningful and casual than the dreaded “what baby food is smeared inside this diaper?” game.”

The shower included two cakes custom made by the world-famous Madonna Inn. Other sweets for the day included these adorable mushroom-shaped sugar cookies and tiny chocolate bird’s nest confections.

Nearly every decorating aspect of this baby shower was a DIY project. “Tracy sewed together a bunting/pennant that the mama took home for the twins’ nursery. I added strips of scrapbook paper as napkin rings and to water bottles. Simple terra cota white washed pots were painted to give it a weathered look, along with some white flowers I planted a few weeks earlier to give them time to ‘fluff’ up. Lined up all in a row on top of this great rock table runner that Tracy had been wanting to buy anyway for a while now. Tiny food labels and tags for the cups added the extra detail that makes all the difference in a party.”

For Jeannett, her favorite detail was one of the most personal ones for mom-to-be Jen. “I’m most happy with the empty frames that I hung tags with tiny paperclips from. Guests were asked to write the mom-to-be a note, which I will then incorporate into a memory book with photos of the day for her.” That’s so sweet! Thanks Jeannette for sharing this beautiful baby shower with us.
