Scott Moore World’s ‘Second Pregnant Man’ Expecting Baby Boy

Scott Moore and his partner, Thomas, were both born as girls and have undergone surgery and hormone treatments to transform their sex. Scott, 30, is legally married to Thomas, with whom he lives in California, because he still has a female birth certificate. The pair already have two adopted boys, Gregg, 12, and Logan, 10, who are the children of a former female partner of Thomas’s. They are now expecting a baby boy due next month.

“We know some people will criticize us, but we are blissfully happy and not ashamed,” said Scott. “We want to show the world that trans-families can be healthy, loving and nurturing.”

Moore and Thomas, who are planning a natural birth at their local hospital, are confident that their son will be able to cope with any teasing he might get about his two dads. “We’ve been through it already,” Thomas told the paper. “My son Logan was bullied, but now he just says to teasers: ‘You may have a problem with my two dads, but I don’t, so you’re not hurting me.’ ”

Scott, who was born a girl called Jessica, first realized he wanted to be a man when he hit puberty aged 11. “I was always a tomboy but when I started to develop breasts I realized I’d been born in the wrong body. When I told my family, they thought I was crazy, but they gradually realized I was serious and allowed me to start taking male hormones when I was 16 years old.”

“I was very depressed and my parents realised it was the only thing that could help me,” said Scott. “I opted not to have a penis because I couldn’t afford it and I didn’t think the results were very good – it had nothing to do with wanting children because back then I didn’t think I’d ever have them.”

Scott and Thomas met in 2005 at a support group meeting for transgendered men.

Thomas began his transition aged 19, although he knew from the age of four that he wanted to be a man. Thomas, who used to be called Laura, legally changed his name in 1998. He started taking testosterone in 1999 and had his 44GG breasts removed at the UCSF medical center in San Francisco in 2004. Later that year he had a hysterectomy and a penis made out flesh from his thigh.

The world’s first “pregnant man”, Thomas Beattie, from Oregon, made headlines around the world in 2008. Beattie was born female, named Tracy Lagondino, but had gender reassignment surgery to become a male. He gave birth to his first child, a daughter named Susan, in June 2008, and his second child, a baby boy, in June 2009.
