Lindsay McGarity held a baby shower at her mom Lisa Morris’ home in honor of her best friend Victoria Netherton and her baby boy James. Being big James Taylor fans, “we all started calling him ‘Sweet Baby James,’ McGarity said. The blue and chcolate brown theme began with paisley and polka dot print plates and napkins that Lisa found. She carried the colors throughout the day.

Host Lindsay is quite the crafter, creating both the welcome sign and invitations for the day. “I made an inexpensive welcome sign for the front porch by decoupaging scrapbook paper onto a wooden circle and stamping the letters. I distressed it by smudging some paint around the edges.” Lindsay created the invitations digitally, printed them on cardstock and backed them with the paisley patterned paper. The invitation read: “Shower the People You Love with Love…Join us for a Baby Shower in honor of Victoria Netherton and Sweet Baby James.”

“The island centerpiece was easy to make, and it made a huge statement,” said Lindsay. She created it by sticking store-bought branches down into glass pebbles poured into a tall container to anchor them. “We strung ribbon through inexpensive ornaments, such as baby bottles, carriages, and pacifiers, and hanged them from the branches.”

She also made three little baby blocks by covering Styrofoam with patterned scrapbook paper and stamping the baby’s initials on one side, then ABC, 123, etc. on the other sides. “I distressed the edges with paint. My friend was able to take them home with her after the shower to add to Baby James’ nursery shelf.” The punch was a frothy blue to match the theme. A blue rubber ducky to float in it for added effect.

Various games were played throughout the day, but Lisa said the most fun was playing ‘The Cotton Ball Game’ (pictured). “Two guests (or more) at a time are blindfolded and try to spoon cotton balls from the bowl on their lap into the bowl held on top of their head. They only have 30 seconds to get as many in as possible. It’s pretty tough since the cotton balls are almost weightless on the spoon and it’s very funny to all the other guests who can see that they are scooping up nothing but air most of the time!”

“My Mom, Sister, and I enjoy making these favor boxes (left) to give out to guests during the holidays or parties we host, so we knew they’d be perfect for the baby shower! We fold patterned scrapbook paper to form two boxes that fit together. We filled them with blue and brown M&M’s and other small chocolates, then tied with a ribbon. Guests picked them up on their way out.”

The Mother of the Mom-To-Be, Peggy Looney, ordered the cake and petite fours from a local bakery, and they did a beautiful job mimicking the pattern on the plates and napkins and it tasted wonderful, too!
