‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Cobie Smulders Welcomes Baby Girl

Shaelyn Cado Killam has met her mother — and it’s actress Cobie Smulders. Smulders, a star of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, gave birth to her daughter on May 16. It is the first child for Smulders and her fiancé Taran Killam.

Smulders announced her pregnancy in November, and got engaged to Killam in January. Smulders plays Robin Scherbatsky, a reporter who has vowed not to have kids. Killam appears as Blauman, a former coworker of Neil Patrick Harris’ character Barney.

Smulders’ pregnancy significantly overlapped with that of Mother costar Alyson Hannigan (who gave birth to a daughter Satayana on March 24). The CBS sitcom valiantly — and in some cases very cleverly — worked around the actresses’ pregnancies. Mother even shot its May season finale over the winter, so as to be sure to include their characters of Robin and Lily.

While the two castmates were pregnant, they bonded over their growing bellies and often shared stories on set. “You really can’t help it, because you have babies on the brain, and you can’t help but talk about it a lot…. From creams, doctors, birth methods, dilation … You talk about everything,” Smulders once said in an interview.
