Federer Wants to Win Wimbledon Long After Baby’s Birth

Roger Federer plans to be still winning Wimbledon when the baby he is expecting with wife Mirka Vavrinec is old enough to enjoy it. Only one Grand Slam win shy of becoming the most prolific Major winner in tennis history, the Swiss ace has no plans to put tennis on hold as he starts his family.
“It was inevitable that I was going to have a child sometime while I was still playing. It’s very exciting and I’m really looking forward to it.” He says the main reason he and wife Mirka decided to start a family now is so their child could get a chance to watch him performing at the peak of his powers. “Mirka’s dream was always to have our child see me play.”
But putting tennis on hold isn’t something Federer plans to do anytime soon. Currently tracking down his sixth win at Wimbledon, he has his eye on a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.
“Having a child hasn’t changed my perspective on life – not yet – but it’s definitely going to have a big impact on both my personal and tennis life. How I see things will change – there will never be a bad day although I am always very positive in life anyway. Win or lose, tennis is just one part of my life. Of course, it’s very time-consuming but there are definitely other things out there, which is why it’s so
fitting to be having a baby now.”
Mirka has been in attendance for almost all of Federer’s Wimbledon matches, her baby bump growing with each passing week. “Mirka being pregnant, it feels good, you know, because she’s completely relaxed. That helps me in a big way, to not be distracted a whole lot,” Federer said. “She’s been very supportive. I expected her to be a bit more nervous maybe or not feeling maybe so well. But she’s been really terrific, and that’s made it easy for me anyway to concentrate on tennis.”
