Evian Skating Baby Commercial Makes You Want To Reach For a Bottle

Evian skating baby commericalNo need to wait for next year’s Super Bowl to find a commercial that you’ll fall in love with. Take a trip on over to YouTube to see the hottest ad on the internet: Evian’s skating babies.

It’s a simple formula really, as easy as H2O. Take babies. Put ‘em on skates. Add music. Watch the internet hits take off. With over six million hits since its release last weekend, it’s become the talk of the water cooler and it’s skating towards sensation territory–the 20-million plus hits that only the rare, few and special ads receive.

The “Live Young” ad begins with a baby tapping one roller-skate-clad foot and playing a version of Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” (remixed by hip-hop producer Dan the Automator) on an old-school boombox. Another baby takes a ramp-enhanced leap over a chain-link fence to join a posse of tykes dancing through a city park. More antics ensue via computer-generated animation, such as daredevil jumps and zigzagging footwork around bottles of Evian.

The babies could barely walk, let alone skate. They were placed in front of green screens and Ludo Fealy of the Motion Picture Company and his team in London did the rest, turning the baby-auditioners into roller-dancers. “They would have rocked the baby gently backwards and forwards with that particular break dance move in mind,” Fealy said.

Fealy and his team filmed a professional skater doing the moves, then programmed a computer-generated baby’s body to replicate them. Then they added the heads of their baby models, attaching them to the dancing digital bodies. They put it all together over a park scene shot in Melbourne and made to look like Manhattan.
